I’m so excited to see Lucy starring in this program. I must admit that she’s really the only reason why I’m following the show at all. I’m curious as to how she, an Asian American woman, is going to be portrayed. So far, not bad. I especially appreciate the “realism” of the Asian mothers perpetually playing the match maker, with the hopes that their children will end up wedding another ethnically-like person of equal professional achievement. And I also liked the dialogue between Mia and the doctor, about how the pressures to date Chinese often have the reverse affect on many Asian Americans. Oh gosh, I would love to see a bona fide and functional Asian American relationship on primetime, but hey, this is AmeriKKKa after all, and I’m sure the writers/producers/directors are going to feel much more comfortable casting the foxy Lucy Liu with someone who looks like them, or who they think “America” would relate to.
Another side comment, how come this, and other NYC based shows like Sex in the City and Lipstick Jungle, gets away with having all white leads? That’s not the NYC I or any other New Yorker knows. Let me guess, it’s just a coincidence, right? Or, there’s just not enough “minority” talent out there, right?
Anyway, enjoying the show so far . . . can’t wait for the next episode.
